Phoenix + Slardar

Why this works

Picking these two heroes together creates a lane and mid-game that can feel quite secure. The primary link isn't about stacking damage types; it's about setup and vision. Slardar's Corrosive Haze makes a key enemy visible and vulnerable, which is all Phoenix needs to reliably land Fire Spirits from a distance or commit to a full-duration Sun Ray. If Slardar gets a good Slithereen Crush initiation, it provides the perfect window for Phoenix to follow up with spells without risk. This lets the duo control the tempo of a fight and punish anyone caught slightly out of position, making ganks more consistent.

In larger teamfights, the dynamic shifts to protecting Phoenix's Supernova. Slardar is an excellent bodyguard for the egg. While the enemy team tries to focus down the sun, he can use Crush and his bash to chain-stun them, often guaranteeing the rebirth. This forces opponents into a difficult choice: either try to race the egg while getting stunned by Slardar, or switch focus to Slardar and let the Supernova go off. Neither option is good. The enemy needs good coordination and specific disables to overcome this, which often gives the Phoenix and Slardar side a small but noticeable edge in chaotic fights.
