Why this works

Getting jumped by a Sand King is often bad, but it can be worse when Riki is on his team. The standard reaction to an Epicenter is to use a stun or a mobility spell to get clear. Riki's Smoke Screen, dropped directly onto the Burrowstrike stun area, denies those options by silencing everyone caught inside. This creates a difficult situation where heroes are forced to take the full damage from Sand King's ultimate without being able to retaliate with spells or use escape items. It's a simple, effective setup that punishes teams for grouping up.

This entire dynamic depends on Sand King landing a good initiation. If he can catch multiple heroes, the fight can swing their way. Aware opponents, however, will anticipate this specific threat, spreading out to make a big setup difficult and carrying detection to see Riki's approach. The play is predictable, and the game often becomes about which team has better vision and positioning before a fight begins. The pairing can be effective when the stars align, but it's not something that will consistently take over a match on its own.
