Riki + Skywrath Mage

Why this works

Catching a lone hero seems like it would require Skywrath Mage to land his own silence first, but it's often Riki who sets the stage. Riki’s Smoke Screen provides a silence and slow in an area, which gives Skywrath more than enough time to position himself. He can follow up with Ancient Seal to increase the incoming magic damage and then drop Mystic Flare right on the trapped hero. The target is slowed and silenced, making it difficult to dodge the damage or fight back effectively.

This duo excels at punishing heroes who are out of position. From the mid-game onwards, Riki and Skywrath Mage can patrol the map together, forcing opponents to play defensively and invest heavily in detection. A successful gank often starts with Riki finding a target and initiating with his smoke. The opposing team’s goal becomes staying grouped up and having save items like a Force Staff ready. If they can’t break the smoke screen or get a save off in time, even a durable hero can be brought down, but it's not a guaranteed kill if the enemy reacts quickly.
