Riki + Techies

Why this works

Trying to chase a Riki often feels like a mistake, but with a Techies on his team, it becomes a guaranteed disaster. Riki is excellent at baiting enemy heroes, drawing them through choke points or into the woods under the pretense of a kill. This plays directly into the Techies game plan of controlling those exact areas with Proximity Mines. What starts as a gank attempt quickly turns into the enemy team running over a minefield. Riki can then use Smoke Screen to lock them in place, preventing escape and letting both heroes clean up.

Across the game, this forces opponents into a terrible choice: either cede map control or risk walking into a death trap every time they leave their base. Riki's constant scouting pressure makes it easy for Techies to establish minefields in key locations, which drains enemy resources on detection. Their best bet is to group up and force fights in open areas where mines are less effective, but Riki is fantastic at punishing anyone who splits off to de-mine, ensuring the trap is always set.
