Sand King + Slardar

Why this works

Seeing two strong initiators together might look like a free win, but the damage types don't always align. Sand King provides a reliable setup with Burrowstrike, letting Slardar easily land a Slithereen Crush and apply Corrosive Haze to a key target. The lockdown is solid. The problem is that Sand King's own follow-up damage from Epicenter and Sand Storm is magical. Corrosive Haze massively reduces armor to amplify physical attacks, so while it helps the rest of the team, Sand King himself doesn't get much direct benefit from Slardar’s ultimate.

This dynamic makes them a setup crew rather than a self-sufficient duo. During the mid-game, they can be a menace, coordinating ganks to catch heroes out of position. A Blink-Burrowstrike into Haze is often a death sentence if a physical carry is nearby to capitalize. In larger teamfights, however, their impact together feels less direct. The success of the pair often hinges on a third hero being able to exploit the armor reduction that Slardar provides. Without that physical damage dealer, their combined threat feels a lot less focused.
