How this matchup plays

Pit of Malice is often the deciding factor in this matchup. If Underlord can trap Drow Ranger inside his root, she becomes a stationary target for Firestorm and any follow-up from his team. Drow’s entire game plan, however, is to stay far away from the frontline where that can't happen. Should Underlord try to walk at her, Drow Ranger has Gust to silence and knock him back, giving her time to reposition or simply attack him from outside his reach. She fundamentally wants to play beyond his effective range.

This dynamic turns teamfights into a pure test of positioning. Underlord and his team want to force engagements in tight spaces where Drow has no room to maneuver, using his lockdown and damage reduction to overwhelm her. Drow wants to fight in open ground, using her own team as a wall so she can hit freely. If Drow gets key items to kite or resist his control, she can often ignore him completely. If Underlord’s team successfully jumps her first, he provides all the tools needed to ensure she goes down. The outcome hinges on which team dictates the terms of the fight.
