Underlord vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Atrophy Aura's damage reduction misses the mark against a lot of what Spectre does. So much of her damage comes from Desolate and Dispersion, neither of which are affected by the aura. This lets her trade and fight into Underlord more effectively than carries who rely on raw attack damage. While Underlord's Firestorm and Pit of Malice can lock down a small area, Spectre's Spectral Dagger often gives her a path to slip away or reposition. He is designed to blunt the impact of physical carries, but Spectre's unique damage profile finds a way around his primary strength.

Later in the game, Spectre's Haunt dictates the map's tempo. The standard response to Spectre is to group up, which avoids Desolate but plays right into Underlord's own game plan when they're on the same team. When they're opponents, however, it makes his team an easy target for the enemy's other spells. Haunt creates chaos and allows Spectre to reach vulnerable backliners that Underlord is trying to protect. He is durable enough to survive the initial burst, but he can’t save his allies from a hero that attacks everyone, everywhere, all at once.
