Alchemist vs Storm Spirit

How this matchup plays

Picking a midlaner into Alchemist often involves deciding if you can disrupt his farm. Storm Spirit struggles with this because trying to kill Alchemist directly can be awkward. The moment Storm Spirit uses Ball Lightning to jump in, Alchemist can start charging Unstable Concoction. This puts the Storm player in a dilemma: commit to the attack and get stunned, or retreat early, wasting mana without getting the kill. The threat of that stun following him wherever he zips is often enough to deter an assassination attempt, letting Alchemist survive ganks that other mid heroes would not.

This dynamic means Storm Spirit usually has to find kills elsewhere on the map. A farmed Alchemist with Chemical Rage active is too durable for Storm to burst down alone, especially when he risks a long stun for trying. Instead of focusing on Alchemist, a good Storm player will snowball by ganking supports and carries to build an advantage for his team. Alchemist, on the other hand, is content to ignore Storm and accelerate his own farm. The matchup tilts slightly in Alchemist's favor because his kit naturally discourages Storm from executing his primary game plan of hunting the enemy's most important hero.
