Alchemist vs Tusk

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down an Alchemist as Tusk is often a frustrating experience. Tusk’s entire kit is built around isolating a hero with Snowball and Ice Shards, then delivering a big hit with Walrus PUNCH!. Against many heroes, this is a death sentence. Alchemist, however, can frequently survive the initial burst by activating Chemical Rage. The massive health regeneration from his ultimate means that unless Tusk has significant backup, the Alchemist can often tank the full combo, turn around, and start throwing Unstable Concoction. This core interaction prevents Tusk from being a direct counter to Alchemist's greed.

The game then becomes a race. Tusk’s team has to commit multiple heroes to gank the Alchemist successfully, which can open up the map for Alchemist's teammates. If they fail to shut him down, Alchemist will inevitably hit an item timing and become a serious problem for Tusk’s side, as he can’t be easily burst down in teamfights either. For Tusk to win, he must create constant pressure with his team and end the game before Alchemist takes over. For Alchemist to win, he simply has to survive. Both plans are viable, leading to a very balanced matchup.
