Axe vs Bounty Hunter

How this matchup plays

Picking a melee hero that relies on invisibility into Axe is a tricky proposition. Bounty Hunter needs to get close to apply Track and deal his damage, but playing near Axe is a losing game. Every right-click risks triggering a Counter Helix spin, punishing Bounty Hunter for doing his job. More importantly, Berserker's Call is a death sentence. A fragile hero like Bounty Hunter has no way to escape once he's taunted, and Axe is tanky enough to easily survive the initial burst and turn the gank around.

This dynamic forces the Bounty Hunter to play a much more cautious game across the map. The usual pattern of scouting for isolated supports is incredibly risky when a Blink Dagger on Axe is a constant threat. Instead of setting up kills, Bounty Hunter often has to play from the back, using Track from a safe distance and avoiding direct confrontation. For Axe, Bounty Hunter is a prime target for a Blink-Call, providing an easy Culling Blade kill to start a fight. The burden is on Bounty Hunter to change his entire playstyle, while Axe gets to do what he always does.
