Axe vs Centaur Warrunner

How this matchup plays

Fighting a Centaur Warrunner at low health is often dangerous because of how much damage he can return, but Axe has a specific tool for this situation. Culling Blade can finish off a target below a certain health point, bypassing the usual risk of trading hits with a hero who excels at it. This ability to secure a kill can stop Centaur from getting off a final Double Edge or surviving long enough for his team to peel for him. The threat of an instant execute makes it harder for Centaur to play on the edge of his health pool, a place where he is normally quite comfortable.

This doesn't mean the matchup is one-sided. In many games, Centaur Warrunner can dictate the pace with Stampede, initiating on his own terms and often from outside Axe's effective range. If Centaur and his team can burst down a priority target, the Culling Blade threat becomes irrelevant. The laning phase can also be difficult for Axe, as he's susceptible to harassment from Double Edge. The outcome often depends on which hero gets a better start and hits their key item timings, as a well-farmed Centaur might be too tanky for the execute to matter until much later.
