Axe vs Jakiro

How this matchup plays

Thinking Jakiro's slows and stuns will keep Axe away is a common mistake. The core of the problem is that Axe doesn't run at his targets; he buys a Blink Dagger and initiates instantly with Berserker's Call. Jakiro is a slow hero with a bad turn rate and no escape ability, making him an extremely easy target for this combo. He is far too fragile to survive the duration of the taunt. If Axe builds a Blade Mail, Jakiro's own damage-over-time spells like Dual Breath and Macropyre end up killing him even faster.

Before Axe gets that Blink Dagger, Jakiro can certainly make the lane difficult with constant spell harass. The entire matchup flips once that key item is finished. Jakiro becomes target number one, a hero who is easy to find and burst down to begin a teamfight. This forces the Jakiro player to position extremely far back, often rushing a Force Staff or Glimmer Cape simply to survive. Axe’s plan is straightforward: jump the slow dragon, get the kill, and the fight is usually won from there.
