Axe vs Muerta

How this matchup plays

Controlling where Muerta points her guns is the key to this matchup. Axe excels at this by forcing her to attack him with Berserker's Call. Once Axe gets his Blink Dagger and Blade Mail, the game gets incredibly difficult for Muerta. A successful Call forces her to attack him, and if her ultimate is active, she'll rapidly kill herself on the reflected magical damage from Blade Mail. She is completely locked down, unable to use items or her Parting Shot to escape, making her an easy target for Culling Blade.

This dynamic warps the entire game around Axe's initiation. Muerta can't farm aggressively or stand her ground in teamfights, as a hidden Axe is a constant threat. She is often forced into buying an early Black King Bar simply to survive, delaying the items she needs to carry. Axe's team can confidently take objectives and control the map, knowing their initiator has a direct and brutal answer to Muerta's primary damage source. Her only option is to play cautiously and hope to activate her BKB before Axe can land his Call.
