Axe vs Puck

How this matchup plays

Playing as Puck against a good Axe feels like walking on a tripwire. All of your normal escape tools are reactive, but Berserker's Call is instant. If Axe gets the jump on you, there's no time to Phase Shift or use Illusory Orb to get away. You’re locked in place, and a fragile hero like Puck dies very quickly to Counter Helix spins and any follow-up damage. Even if you survive the initial jump, Axe is naturally tanky against your magic burst and often builds a Blade Mail, making it dangerous to even try and fight back. Culling Blade also cleanly finishes you off, ignoring your attempts to dodge.

This dynamic defines the entire mid-game. Once Axe gets a Blink Dagger, he has one job: find and delete you before a fight starts. This forces the Puck to play incredibly cautiously, often waiting for Axe to reveal himself before daring to move into a lane or join a fight. Your ability to initiate or make pickoffs is severely restricted because you're the primary target. Axe dictates the pace of the game, and your main objective shifts from controlling teamfights to simply surviving his initiation.
