Beastmaster vs Skywrath Mage

How this matchup plays

Trying to pressure a lane with your summons runs into a problem against Skywrath Mage. His spammable spells can target and kill your Boar from a safe distance, which undermines a core part of Beastmaster's early game. Without the Boar's slow and vision, it's much harder to secure kills or even control the lane. Furthermore, Beastmaster isn't naturally durable, and an Ancient Seal from Skywrath makes him extremely vulnerable to magic burst. Getting caught out of position, even for a moment, can lead to a quick death before you have a chance to react.

This tension continues into the mid-game. Beastmaster wants to group with his army and use Primal Roar to start a fight. Skywrath Mage, on the other hand, excels at punishing anyone who gets isolated by that Roar with a full Mystic Flare combo. The threat works both ways, as a well-timed Roar on Skywrath is a death sentence. The matchup leans slightly away from Beastmaster because he has to play with constant respect for Skywrath's burst potential, which can slow down his objective-taking and map control.
