Beastmaster vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Getting jumped by Beastmaster is usually a death sentence, but Slark has all the right tools to survive. The slow from Wild Axes is easily removed by Dark Pact, and Pounce provides a reliable escape over any terrain. This makes it incredibly difficult for Beastmaster to lock Slark down for a kill. Even the setup for Primal Roar is complicated by Shadow Dance, which can make Slark disappear right as the gank is about to happen. He's just too slippery for a hero that relies on singling out and holding a target in place.

Early on, Beastmaster can apply pressure in lane, but this advantage fades quickly. Once Slark has a few levels, the tables turn. The summons Beastmaster relies on to fight and push become a source of free Essence Shift stacks, making Slark stronger with every passing minute. In mid-game skirmishes, Slark doesn't need to fight through the boars and hawks; he can simply leap onto Beastmaster himself. Beastmaster's plan to control the map and take objectives crumbles when his key target can not only survive his ganks but actively hunt him down in return.
