Bristleback vs Magnus

How this matchup plays

Thinking Magnus can easily control Bristleback is a common mistake. The real threat isn't Magnus himself, but what he enables for his team. Skewer can reposition Bristleback, but it’s clumsy for trying to expose his back. Reverse Polarity is the main concern; it provides a long lockdown for his allies to burst Bristleback from the front, where he's most vulnerable. Outside of that specific combo, Magnus lacks the personal damage to deal with a durable Bristleback. His kit sets up kills but doesn't inherently shut down the hero's core strengths of tanking and sustained damage.

Early laning can be difficult for Magnus, as he has few tools to stop Bristleback from running him down with slows and Quill Sprays. Mid-game fights then become a test of target priority. If Magnus uses Reverse Polarity on Bristleback, he's spent his ultimate on a hero who might survive the follow-up, potentially leaving his own carries exposed. A smart Magnus will try to ignore Bristleback and find a more fragile target instead. The matchup often comes down to which team better executes their plan: Magnus setting up a quick kill on a key hero, or Bristleback creating enough chaos for his own team to win the fight.
