Bristleback vs Storm Spirit

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map tempo as Storm Spirit becomes difficult when Bristleback is an enemy. Storm wants to snowball with quick pickoffs, but Bristleback is an awful target for him. He's too durable to burst, and any attempt to kite or reposition around him with Ball Lightning often means hitting his back. This makes Storm's attacks less effective and triggers a barrage of passive Quill Sprays, punishing Storm for the very mobility he relies on. A committed gank on Bristleback wastes a lot of time and mana for little reward, slowing Storm’s momentum.

Later in the game, this dynamic forces Storm Spirit into a tough spot during teamfights. He can either try to ignore Bristleback and dive the back line, but a free-hitting Bristleback will quickly dismantle his own supports. Or, he can focus Bristleback, which is usually a losing trade as he can't deal enough damage through the passive damage reduction before getting worn down by constant quills. Storm’s best approach is to get ahead early and rely on his team to have the specific lockdown or break effects needed to handle Bristleback.
