Bristleback vs Tusk

How this matchup plays

Picking Tusk into an enemy Bristleback often forces a change in your game plan. Tusk wants to find a target, Snowball in, and unload a full combo for a quick kill. The problem is that Bristleback is built to survive exactly that kind of aggression. His passive reduces the incoming damage, especially from the back where Tusk often ends up, and each hit just adds more stacks of Quill Spray onto Tusk and anyone nearby. Because Tusk has to commit to get his damage off, he ends up taking a lot of punishment in return without securing the kill he needs.

This dynamic means Tusk usually has to ignore Bristleback in fights and try to find a different hero to initiate on. That gives Bristleback a lot of freedom to run at Tusk's own backline and cause chaos. While Tusk can still be very effective against other heroes, and Ice Shards can be used to trap Bristleback for the rest of his team, he can’t directly solve the problem that is a farmed Bristleback. This forces Tusk's team to play around their initiator having one less viable target, which can complicate teamfights.
