Bristleback vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Taking damage over time is exactly what Bristleback wants. Each tick from a Venomancer spell like Poison Sting or Venomous Gale from the side or back can trigger a Quill Spray. This means Venomancer’s own harass ends up fueling Bristleback’s damage output, letting him build Warpath stacks and become a serious threat. While the slows can be annoying, Bristleback often ends up winning a direct war of attrition because his returned damage can outpace Venomancer's slow drain.

The game plan for Venomancer is to not fight Bristleback directly, but to use his slows and Poison Nova to set up kills for his allies. He creates space for his team to kite and focus the pig down. On the other hand, Bristleback's goal is to ignore Venomancer as much as possible and run at the backline. The result is often a standoff where neither hero is a direct counter to the other. Who wins depends on which team has better tools to support their hero's objective, making it a very situational fight.
