Centaur Warrunner vs Lich

How this matchup plays

Teamfights often come down to a test of initiation versus control. A charging Centaur Warrunner, backed by Stampede, wants to run over a target. Lich’s job is to stop that from happening. A well-timed Frost Shield on the initiation target drastically reduces their incoming damage and slows Centaur’s whole team as they arrive. If Centaur gets too far ahead, Sinister Gaze can hold him in place long enough for a punish. However, Centaur is naturally tanky enough to survive this initial burst of control, and if he manages to close the distance, Lich is extremely fragile and dies quickly to a Hoof Stomp and focus fire.

The result is a delicate dance of positioning and timing. In the lane, Lich can be a nuisance, but Centaur is usually durable enough to farm and survive. Mid-game fights are decided by who gets the better setup. If Centaur’s team can find an isolated pick-off with Stampede, Lich’s defensive spells are less effective. Conversely, if Lich baits Centaur’s team into a chokepoint, a big Chain Frost can easily turn the fight. Neither hero fundamentally shuts down what the other wants to do, leading to a very even back-and-forth across the game.
