How this matchup plays

Wasting a full combo from Lion just for Centaur Warrunner to walk away is a common outcome here. Lion is built to delete a single target with Hex and Finger of Death, but Centaur’s core identity is having a massive health pool. He can frequently survive Lion’s initial burst and then turn the fight with a Hoof Stomp or use Stampede to retreat or reposition his entire team. The high health also means Centaur’s own Double Edge hits harder, making him a real threat if he gets on top of the fragile Lion.

This dynamic makes the matchup more about positioning than a direct counter. Lion will generally avoid targeting Centaur unless he’s already low or completely isolated with backup nearby. Likewise, Centaur’s main goal is to initiate on a squishy backliner like Lion, not duel him. Both heroes are much better at killing each other’s teammates.
