Chaos Knight vs Lifestealer

How this matchup plays

Laning against Chaos Knight often feels like a stalemate. Lifestealer can use Rage to completely negate the lockdown from Chaos Bolt, letting him stand his ground or escape a gank. This makes it difficult for Chaos Knight to secure solo kills. However, Chaos Knight's Phantasm illusions create a problem that Lifestealer has a hard time solving. He lacks inherent area-of-effect damage, so clearing the fakes to find the real hero can be a slow process, during which he takes a lot of physical damage. Lifestealer's Feast is also less effective against illusions, which have lower health pools.

The outcome of their fights usually depends on who gets the jump and what cooldowns are available. If Chaos Knight finds Lifestealer and can use Reality Rift before Rage is activated, he and his illusions can often burst him down. On the other hand, if Lifestealer baits the stun or simply Rages at the start of the fight, he can often ignore the illusions, run at the real Chaos Knight, and out-sustain his damage in a direct man-fight. It becomes a matter of execution and who has their key items and abilities ready for the engagement.
