Chaos Knight vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Picking Rubick into a Chaos Knight is a bet on your own positioning and reaction time. The potential is obvious: Chaos Bolt is a fantastic stun to steal, and a well-timed lift can save an ally. The real prize, however, is Phantasm. Stealing Chaos Knight's ultimate can completely reverse a fight, turning his signature strength into a liability for his own team. Even Reality Rift offers Rubick a way to pull an enemy out of position. There's almost always a valuable spell for him to take, which gives him a high ceiling in this matchup.

The matchup balances out because Chaos Knight's primary goal is to find a vulnerable target and burst it down, and Rubick fits that description perfectly. If Chaos Knight and his illusions can get on top of Rubick, he often dies before he can cast Spell Steal or even use a defensive item. The entire game becomes a cat-and-mouse of positioning. Rubick needs to play from the fog, waiting for Chaos Knight to commit his spells on someone else, while CK actively hunts for the frail mage to eliminate the threat before it materializes.
