Chaos Knight vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Trying to survive a Chaos Knight initiation is difficult for Venomancer. Reality Rift brings CK right on top of him, and the burst from illusions is often too much. While Veno can respond with Poison Nova, it has no effect on Phantasm illusions, leaving CK's main damage source free to attack. The real Chaos Knight still takes damage, but his illusions will tear through a slowed team. This leaves Venomancer needing to kite the real hero and survive the illusion onslaught, which is a tall order without help.

This dynamic defines the matchup from the mid-game onward. Chaos Knight looks for opportunities to jump on Venomancer before he can position properly in a teamfight. Venomancer's plan is to stay far back, using Plague Wards for vision and to make approaches difficult. The game often comes down to whether CK can secure a Black King Bar to ignore Veno's spells and kill him, or if Venomancer and his team can kite and wear down the real CK before his illusions overwhelm them.
