Picking Mars into an opponent like Crystal Maiden is a tough decision for any team. The fundamental problem lies in their ultimates: Mars’s Arena of Blood is meant to trap enemies for his team, but against Crystal Maiden, he often just creates a perfect kill box for her Freezing Field. He corrals everyone together, making them easy targets for her massive area damage. Beyond that, Crystal Maiden’s Frostbite is a serious threat. It stops Mars from being able to turn and position, preventing him from using Bulwark to reduce damage or lining up his Spear.

This dynamic forces the Mars player into a difficult position all game. Using Arena of Blood becomes a massive risk; he has to constantly track Crystal Maiden’s position and cooldowns before he can commit his own biggest spell. This hesitation can cost his team the fight. The Crystal Maiden player, on the other hand, can play from the back lines, waiting for Mars to make his move. The burden falls on Mars to somehow initiate a fight and kill Crystal Maiden first before he can safely use his ultimate for its intended purpose.
