Crystal Maiden vs Phantom Assassin

How this matchup plays

Jumping on a lone support is usually an easy kill, but Crystal Maiden presents a unique problem. Her Frostbite is a powerful root that stops Phantom Assassin from either escaping or re-engaging with Phantom Strike. This gives Maiden enough time to get help or even turn the fight herself with Freezing Field. The initial exchange is a contest of reaction time: if Phantom Assassin can close the distance and get her burst off before the root lands, she wins. If not, she’s stuck in place and vulnerable.

This creates a game of cat and mouse. In the early game, Crystal Maiden can use her spells to bully Phantom Assassin out of lane. Later on, it's about positioning and vision. A Phantom Assassin who gets the drop on Maiden, especially with an item that blocks her spells, will secure the kill easily. However, a well-positioned Crystal Maiden who anticipates the attack can lock PA down, completely turning a teamfight. The outcome really depends on who sees who first and how prepared they are for the engagement.
