Playing against a Nether Ward is tense for Crystal Maiden. Her entire kit, especially the mana-intensive Freezing Field, becomes a huge liability if that Ward is hidden nearby. Casting her ultimate can easily get her killed before it does any real damage. On the other hand, Pugna isn't safe either. A single Frostbite from Crystal Maiden is all it takes to instantly cancel his Life Drain channel, turning a potential kill into his own death sentence. His Decrepify can also backfire, amplifying the damage from her nukes if he tries to use it to save himself from physical attacks.

The matchup often hinges on which hero's team can better control vision and positioning. Fights are decided by whether Crystal Maiden can find an angle to channel her ultimate away from a Nether Ward, or if Pugna can place his Ward to shut down her team's spell-casting from the start. Both heroes are fragile and rely on staying in the back lines.
