Deciding whether to pick Crystal Maiden with or against Spectre is always a tough call because their kits interact in such a direct, opposing way. Crystal Maiden has the tools, like Frostbite, to completely shut down Spectre's weak laning phase and set up early kills. She helps her team apply pressure across the map, which is the perfect strategy to keep a hero like Spectre from getting farmed. On the other hand, a farmed Spectre sees Crystal Maiden as a free kill. Haunt allows Spectre to close the distance instantly and isolate the slow, fragile support, often before she can even react.

The game becomes a race against the clock. Early on, the advantage is squarely with Crystal Maiden, who enables aggression and can make Spectre’s game miserable. The goal for her team is to build a lead that's too big to overcome. If they fail and Spectre gets her core items, the dynamic flips. Spectre will begin actively hunting the Maiden, using Haunt to initiate fights by picking her off first.
