How this matchup plays

Believing that Dark Willow's lockdown is an easy answer to Ember Spirit often leads to disappointment. Ember has a response for almost everything in Willow's kit. Flame Guard can absorb the initial magic damage from her spells, allowing him to walk through Bramble Maze. The delay on Cursed Crown gives him a window to place a Fire Remnant and escape before the stun even lands. A well-timed Sleight of Fist can also dodge key projectiles or let him deal damage while avoiding her roots. This leaves the interaction down to pure timing and execution from both players.

Across the game, this dynamic creates a tense cat-and-mouse situation. Dark Willow's goal is to force Ember to use his defensive spells early, or to coordinate with allies to chain-stun him before he can escape with a remnant. Ember Spirit, on the other hand, can use Sleight of Fist to poke at Willow from a distance, forcing her out of position without fully committing. He doesn't have to kill her directly; he can simply out-maneuver her and target her teammates. The result is that neither hero consistently dictates the flow of a fight against the other.
