Dark Willow vs Lich

How this matchup plays

Picking Dark Willow into an enemy support who can punish your aggression is always a risk. Lich is a prime example of this problem. His Frost Shield is a simple but effective way to reduce the burst damage from Bedlam or a big Shadow Realm attack, often giving the target just enough time to survive and turn the fight. More importantly, Sinister Gaze is a perfect answer for a Dark Willow who has to break her invisibility to cast spells or attack. It locks her down and pulls her into a bad spot, making her an easy target for the rest of Lich’s team.

Across the game, this dynamic forces the Dark Willow player to be much more cautious. Running in with Bedlam becomes a huge gamble if Sinister Gaze is available. Instead, she has to play patiently, perhaps using Terrorize to scatter the enemy team before committing, or waiting for Lich to use his spells on someone else. For the Lich player, the game plan is straightforward: stay near your cores, keep Frost Shield active on whoever Willow is likely to target, and hold your channelled disable for when she finally reveals herself. This reactive strength gives Lich a consistent, if small, advantage in teamfights.
