Dark Willow vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Stealing one of Dark Willow's ultimates is the dream scenario, but it's much harder to pull off than it seems. Grabbing Bedlam requires Rubick to be dangerously close, putting him at risk of her whole combo. For Terrorize, a good Willow can cast it and instantly use Shadow Realm, often denying the window for Spell Steal entirely. This means Rubick frequently ends up with a Cursed Crown or Bramble Maze instead. While these are fine spells, they're rarely the game-breaking abilities he's looking for, making the value of his signature spell highly conditional in this matchup.

Throughout the game, this creates a tense dynamic. In lane, they are both fragile heroes who can threaten each other, but Shadow Realm gives Dark Willow a reliable escape from Telekinesis setups. Later, teamfights become a mind game. The Rubick player is constantly positioning for that perfect ultimate steal, while the Dark Willow player has to track him and decide when, or if, to use her biggest spells. If Rubick misses his opportunity or is forced to steal a lesser spell, Willow's own crowd control and damage can easily have a greater impact on the fight's outcome.
