Dark Willow vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Picking a fragile hero like Dark Willow means you have to be very careful about what kind of lockdown the enemy team has. Shadow Shaman presents a serious problem because his entire kit is designed to catch and hold a single target. A fast Hex can disable Willow before she has a chance to activate Shadow Realm. Even if she does manage to become untargetable, a patient Shaman can simply wait for the spell to end and then lock her down with Shackles. He has multiple, reliable ways to ensure she gets caught and removed from a fight.

This pressure starts in the lane, where Dark Willow can be easily killed if she steps out of position. As the game goes on, her plan to flank and cause chaos with Bedlam is constantly threatened by a potential Blink-Hex from the Shadow Shaman. This forces her to play much more cautiously, often from too far away to be effective. When it's time to push or defend high ground, his Mass Serpent Ward creates a siege problem that Willow can't safely help solve, as getting close enough to clear the wards makes her a primary target for his lockdown.
