Dark Willow vs Sniper

How this matchup plays

Trying to pin down a good Sniper is where Dark Willow struggles. Most of her spells, like Cursed Crown and Bedlam, require her to get fairly close to a target. Sniper's entire game plan is built around preventing that. With his massive attack range from Take Aim, he can usually sit far behind his team, well outside of Willow's initiation zone. If she tries to run at him, he can slow her with Shrapnel and simply walk away while still attacking. Her Shadow Realm can help her reposition or dodge an Assassinate, but it doesn't solve the fundamental problem of closing the distance.

This forces Dark Willow to rely on surprise or team setup to be effective against him. She typically needs a Blink Dagger to have any real solo kill threat. Without it, Sniper can dictate the spacing of a fight and safely chip away at her and her teammates. However, the matchup isn't completely one-sided. If Dark Willow successfully gets the jump on Sniper, he's extremely fragile and lacks escape. A surprise Cursed Crown or a well-placed Bramble Maze is often a death sentence for him, which keeps the dynamic from being too lopsided.
