Death Prophet vs Mars

How this matchup plays

Fighting inside Mars's Arena of Blood is often exactly where Death Prophet wants to be. She can sustain through his initial burst by using Spirit Siphon on him or his allies, making her difficult to pin down and kill. Her ultimate, Exorcism, is also a great tool against him since the ghosts attack from all angles, largely ignoring the damage reduction from his Bulwark. If Mars commits his spear and ultimate combo on Death Prophet, he risks trapping himself with a hero who can out-sustain his damage and turn his own arena against him.

This dynamic forces Mars to play around Death Prophet's timings. His best bet is to find pickoffs on her teammates or try to catch her with a long-range spear before she can react with her spells. Death Prophet, on the other hand, wants to group with her team and dare Mars to initiate. If he uses his arena on the wrong targets or at the wrong time, she can pop Exorcism and Silence to systematically take apart his team. It puts the pressure on Mars to be perfect with his initiation, while Death Prophet is happy to brawl.
