Doom vs Grimstroke

How this matchup plays

Struggling to build a gold lead is common for Doom in this matchup. Grimstroke's constant lane pressure from Stroke of Fate makes it dangerous to walk up for last hits or to use Devour, slowing down the farm needed for key initiation items. The threat of a Phantom's Embrace also hangs over the lane, ready to silence and punish any aggressive move Doom might try to make. This early harassment creates a significant tempo deficit that can be difficult to recover from, as Doom's entire game plan relies on hitting his timings.

Later in the game, even after finding his farm, Doom's attempts to initiate are consistently undermined. A well-positioned Grimstroke can preemptively silence Doom with his Phantom as he jumps in, completely wasting the initiation. Alternatively, a quick Ink Swell on an ally can turn a successful Doom cast into a disaster, stunning Doom and allowing the target to be saved. Doom is forced to play a much more patient game, trying to catch Grimstroke out of position or wait until his defensive spells are on cooldown, while Grimstroke's job is to shadow his own cores and be ready to counter the inevitable jump.
