How this matchup plays

Casting Doom on Kunkka feels like the correct move, but it is often not the guaranteed kill it appears to be. A smart Kunkka will use X Marks the Spot on himself before a fight, anticipating the jump. Because the return is part of the spell's effect on him, he will still get pulled back to his original spot even while silenced and muted by Doom. This can turn a confident pick-off attempt into a bad overextension, leaving Doom isolated deep in enemy territory after using his most important cooldown.

The matchup is a constant battle over initiation and positioning. Kunkka can farm safely from a distance with Tidebringer, forcing Doom to commit to closing the gap. If Doom finds Kunkka out of position and alone, the kill is straightforward. However, if Kunkka's team is nearby, they can use the baited Doom to set up their own counter-attack with Torrent and Ghostship. Success really depends on which hero gets to start the fight on their terms, making the engagement a true coin flip based on execution.
