Doom vs Sand King

How this matchup plays

Casting Doom on Sand King seems like a straightforward solution, but it’s a race that often comes down to who acts first. Sand King's Burrowstrike is quick enough to interrupt Doom's ultimate during its cast animation, stunning him and setting him up for an Epicenter. This turns Doom's own initiation attempt into a death sentence. However, if Doom catches Sand King silenced, out of position, or simply gets his spell off first, the situation reverses. Without access to his abilities, Sand King offers very little to his team and is easily focused down.

The matchup isn't about one hero consistently beating the other, but about which team better enables their initiator. A fight can be decided by Sand King landing a key stun on Doom before he can act. It can also be won by Doom ignoring Sand King entirely and shutting down a different, more threatening core hero. Both heroes want to control the start of a fight, and since they can both disrupt each other's primary goal, the outcome often depends on positioning, vision, and which player has the faster reaction time in the crucial moment.
