Drow Ranger vs Shadow Fiend

How this matchup plays

Trying to land spells as Shadow Fiend against a Drow Ranger is a miserable experience. He needs to stop moving to aim his Shadowrazes, but Drow's Frost Arrows make that impossible from a huge distance. This fundamental problem gets worse when he tries to use Requiem of Souls. A good Drow can instantly silence and knock him back with Gust, completely ruining his big teamfight spell. On top of it all, Drow Ranger's physical damage from Marksmanship shreds through SF's naturally low armor at all stages of the game.

This dynamic forces the Shadow Fiend player onto the back foot immediately. He can’t dominate his lane and often has to buy a Black King Bar or other defensive items far earlier than he wants, delaying his damage output. Even with those items, Drow can often reposition or wait out the spell immunity before kiting him down. Drow, meanwhile, is free to build her typical damage items and sit safely in the backline, treating Shadow Fiend as a priority target she is perfectly equipped to handle.
