Drow Ranger vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Getting jumped by Phoenix seems like it should shut Drow Ranger down completely. The attack speed slow from Fire Spirits is a serious problem for her, and Icarus Dive closes the gap instantly. But Drow has a direct answer with Gust. A well-timed silence can stop the dive mid-air or prevent Phoenix from casting anything else after landing, turning the initiation on its head. Phoenix's Supernova also presents a big, stationary target that Drow is great at focusing down with her high physical damage, provided she isn't caught out of position by the initial cast.

The matchup often comes down to timings and which team executes better. Phoenix tends to have the advantage in the early game, where the lane harass from Fire Spirits is most effective and Drow is still fragile. As the game progresses and Drow Ranger gets items like a Hurricane Pike or a Black King Bar, she can better dictate her own positioning and ignore some of the disruption.
