Drow Ranger vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Fighting into a late-game Drow Ranger is difficult for Viper because of the massive range difference. While Viper needs to get relatively close to apply Nethertoxin or use Viper Strike, Drow can stand far behind her team and hit him with Frost Arrows. This forces Viper to overextend into danger if he wants to be effective. Drow's Gust is also an excellent tool against a charging Viper, pushing him away and silencing him before he can cast his most dangerous spells. The slow from her arrows can match his, but she applies it from a much safer distance.

This matchup often comes down to timings and team composition. Viper is a lane bully and can make the first part of the game very difficult for Drow Ranger. However, as the game progresses, Drow's damage scales up much harder. If her team can protect her and she survives the mid-game, she tends to take over teamfights from the backline. Viper's goal is to end the game or cripple Drow before she gets her core items, while Drow's plan is to survive long enough to leverage her superior range and damage output.
