Earth Spirit vs Night Stalker

How this matchup plays

Getting jumped at night by a charging Night Stalker is a big problem for a hero like Earth Spirit. The area silence from Crippling Fear prevents Earth Spirit from casting any spells, turning off his ability to escape with Rolling Boulder or disrupt with Boulder Smash. He's left totally vulnerable while NS and his team collapse on him. Even if Earth Spirit gets his combo off first, Night Stalker is naturally durable and often builds to be even tankier, allowing him to absorb the initial control and turn the fight around with his own lockdown.

This advantage is most pronounced during the first few nights when ganks are most effective. Earth Spirit's game plan has to adapt. During the day, he can be the aggressor, but at night he must play more cautiously, staying close to his teammates. His job becomes using his stun and slow to kite Night Stalker from a safe distance, or saving an ally who gets caught. If he can anticipate the gank, a quick Rolling Boulder is often enough to create distance and survive before the silence can land.
