Ember Spirit vs Muerta

How this matchup plays

Facing Muerta as an Ember Spirit often comes down to her ultimate timing. Pierce the Veil makes her immune to all of Ember's physical damage, shutting down Sleight of Fist attacks and right-clicks entirely. However, the ethereal state also makes her take extra magic damage. This creates a tense standoff: a physical Ember build has to disengage immediately, while an Ember with a strong Flame Guard or magic damage from items can suddenly burn through her health pool. The fight can flip based on which damage type is more prevalent at that moment.

This balanced dynamic defines the matchup across the entire game. Ember Spirit has the mobility with Fire Remnant to escape if Muerta uses her ultimate, forcing him to play reactively. His goal is to bait out Pierce the Veil, disengage, and then re-initiate once it's over, or to catch her without it. Muerta's game plan is the opposite; she wants to force Ember to commit to an all-in fight, then activate her ultimate to turn it around and gun him down while he has no physical recourse. Success for either hero depends on predicting the other's actions.
