Ember Spirit vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Trying to trade hits in lane against Phoenix feels awful for Ember Spirit. It seems like Flame Guard should absorb the magic damage, but the bigger problem is Fire Spirits. The attack speed slow makes it incredibly difficult for Ember to last hit or fight back effectively, while the damage over time quickly eats through his shield anyway. This allows Phoenix to control the lane's pace from early on, preventing Ember from getting the snowball start he often relies on.

Later on, that pressure translates to teamfights. Ember Spirit's whole game is about zipping in with Fire Remnant to find a quick kill, but that's exactly what Phoenix punishes with Supernova. Diving in becomes a massive risk, as getting caught by the egg usually means death. This forces Ember to play much more cautiously, waiting for the egg to be used or trying to split the map instead of taking fights. Phoenix doesn't completely shut Ember down, but he definitely dictates where and when Ember can be effective.
