Head-to-head Dota 2 7.41f win rate from ranked matches.
In Dota 2 7.41f, Ember Spirit wins the Ember Spirit vs Shadow Demon matchup: Ember Spirit beats Shadow Demon in 54.65% of 7,328 ranked matches.
Thinking you can lock down Ember Spirit with Demonic Purge is a common trap. Ember simply casts Flame Guard to remove the slow, leaving him free to fight or escape while Shadow Demon's ultimate is wasted. This pattern defines the matchup. Ember's high mobility makes it difficult for Shadow Demon to land Soul Catcher, and he can easily dodge the setup for kills. Even a defensive Disruption backfires, as Ember can use the downtime to set up Fire Remnants or immediately clear the weak illusions with Sleight of Fist. Shadow Demon lacks the tools to control the fight and is too fragile to survive Ember's initiation.
