Ember Spirit vs Wraith King

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a Wraith King is a trap for Ember Spirit. All of Ember's magical damage from Flame Guard and Searing Chains gets spent to proc Reincarnation, but then he has nothing left for the second life. Wraith King gets back up with full health and mana, surrounded by a massive slow, and Ember Spirit is often left out of position with all his spells on cooldown. Even outside of the ultimate, a well-timed Wraithfire Blast can interrupt a Fire Remnant escape or set up a kill on the otherwise slippery spirit.

Across the game, Wraith King sets a pace that Ember Spirit struggles with. Ember wants quick pickoffs and fast-paced fights where he can zip in and out. Wraith King forces long, drawn-out engagements simply by refusing to die. Ember can try to avoid him and focus on supports, but a good WK will frontline for his team and use his stun to lock down key targets. For Ember to succeed, his team needs to be able to kite the first life and re-engage on the second, but the Reincarnation slow makes that incredibly difficult.
