Enigma vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Landing a perfect Black Hole against Phoenix often feels less effective than it should. The common idea is that Supernova can always cancel it, but the reality is more about positioning and timing. Before Enigma gets a Black King Bar, Phoenix can indeed stop his ultimate with a well-timed egg. Even after, the threat remains. Phoenix can use Icarus Dive to escape the initial setup, or place Supernova away from the Black Hole, forcing Enigma's team to split their attention between two critical targets. Instead of a clean counter, it creates a second, urgent problem on the battlefield that complicates any follow-up.

This dynamic shapes the entire game. Early on, Enigma has to be very careful, as any ultimate attempt is vulnerable. He's often pressured into farming a BKB sooner than he'd like. Later, fights become a standoff. Enigma wants Phoenix to use his ultimate first, while Phoenix wants to hold Supernova as a response. This usually benefits Phoenix's team, as he can still contribute with Sun Ray and slows from a safe distance, while Enigma is forced to wait for the one perfect moment that might never come. Enigma's whole game plan revolves around his ultimate, and Phoenix is uniquely equipped to disrupt it.
