Slowing down a carry's farm is a classic way to win, and Lich excels at making the lane miserable for Faceless Void. Frost Shield and Frost Blast offer constant harass and make trading hits unfavorable for Void, delaying his crucial item timings. This pressure forces Void to play defensively early, potentially ceding map control to Lich's team. The longer it takes for Void to come online, the more objectives Lich and his allies can secure, building a lead that can be difficult to overcome even against a late-game Chronosphere.

This initial advantage for Lich tends to even out as the game progresses. Teamfights become a tense standoff centered on key cooldowns. If Faceless Void catches Lich in Chronosphere, a major source of teamfight control and protection is removed. However, if Lich positions correctly and avoids the ultimate, he can completely neutralize Void's aggression.
