Nature's Prophet vs Pugna

How this matchup plays

Dropping a Nether Ward completely neutralizes what Nature's Prophet wants to do. Prophet relies on high-mana spells to move around the map with Teleportation and contribute to fights globally with Wrath of Nature. Pugna's ward punishes him for casting either one, often leading to Prophet killing himself by simply trying to join a fight or escape. Even trying to trap someone in Sprout becomes a liability. The core of this matchup is a direct kit counter; one of Prophet's defining strengths—his global presence—is turned into a massive weakness.

Across the game, this forces Nature's Prophet to play in a way that's completely unnatural for him. He can't safely split-push towers because a defensive Nether Ward will punish his escape. He can't confidently teleport in to turn a gank around. Pugna can play much more aggressively, using his ward to establish control and daring the Prophet to make a move. This leaves Prophet needing to either build a Black King Bar much earlier than he'd like or commit to a right-click build and hope he can find pickoffs without relying on his spells, which is often not enough.
