Pushing down a tower with Mass Serpent Ward often decides the tempo of a game. Shadow Shaman excels at this, creating pressure by forcing the enemy team to respond or lose objectives. Grimstroke, however, has excellent tools to disrupt this plan. The long channel time on Shackles is a major weakness that Grimstroke can exploit with the stun from a fully charged Ink Swell. A well-timed Phantom's Embrace can also silence Shadow Shaman before he can even begin his disable combo, leaving him vulnerable. Neither hero has a clear advantage in this direct spell trade; it comes down to positioning and reaction speed.

This dynamic creates a tense mid-game. Shadow Shaman will look for pickoffs on isolated heroes, using his disables to guarantee a kill and open up the map for his team to push. Grimstroke's goal is to prevent this by keeping his team grouped and ready to counter-initiate. If Shaman commits and fails to secure a quick kill, Grimstroke can turn the fight with Soulbind, punishing Shaman and his allies for clumping up.
